Onwards & Upwards 2015. KateWhiteheadTextiles © 2015 Kate
Happy new year...I have returned from my trips and travels to Paris & Amsterdam, visiting family and showing my textiles. Back to creating new stock for this years' shows. Fingers crossed my new website will be finished at the end of February that will (at last) include a shop for the bags, bracelets, kimonos and shawls that I've produced from rags and tatters with love and care.
Highlights of my trips were the Textile and Fashion Museum in Tilburg and the Museum of Decorative Art in Paris. If you get the chance, I'm sure you'd find them inspiring!
On a more sombre note, I passed through Iepers (Ypres), a town obliterated during WW1 and visited Anne Frank's home in Amsterdam. These places were as intriguing as they were harrowing. I am blessed to be experiencing this bitter weather and so much enjoying the slow appearance of spring.

Artmarket & Hepworth. KateWhiteheadTextiles © 2015 Kate
Thank you to all who showed an interest in my work @ the Artmarket last weekend. I am starting to make a selection of Kimonos to sell next year so instead of having one displayed at shows in view to taking commissions, I will have stock there and then.
I am pleased to have been asked to show my work at the Hepworth market this Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th 10am-4pm. This will be my final show this year; I hope to see you there.
It has been an exciting year, starting with my work being shown in Selvedge magazines shop window for a month in the Spring, taking part in a dual city print and weave course in Istanbul and London with Mimar Sinan University and Central Saint Martins, being invited to show my work at the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair, The Artmarket and The Hepworth. In the new year I will be introducing my new shop online, building stock of areas of my work to avoid disappointment at shows and I will lead a series of workshops.

identity
- 1.the fact of being who or what a person or thing is.
Since my return from Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul.I have created a new collection.
- The work is a continuation of The Beauty Of Poor Materials; the title for my final collection presented at the end of my degree, at New Designers in Islington and Selvedge magazine's shop window London. As I take time to reflect on my journey through life, starting out as an adopted baby I have become fascinated by IDENTITY... WHAT MAKES US WHO WE ARE?
For many years my love of finding what are commonly regarded as poor materials, fabrics that have been rejected, the discarded and the overlooked has grown. I over dye, stitch, weave and embroider my finds to create textiles to desire and cherish. My current pieces are numbered with a patch to give them an Identity. They are distinguished as a piece of me and a part of who I have become as an individual artist and designer. © 2015 Kate Whitehead
